I am still looking into the records and finding merging and correcting that needs to be done including records that ate not a match. For another Adventure in Family Tree click here.
The information in this adventure is how I found some possible duplicates for my grandmother Mary Ellen Kerr Gee and her sister Alta. I was able to find records that did not match and some that required permission to merge.

Look what e-mail can bring
I received an e-mail from Judy Wolven (someone that I had
never heard of before) inquiring about Solomon Gee. She found my e-mail address from a post that I had placed on a
Genealogy Bulletin Board a few years ago.
She was trying to connect her line with Solomon. She wrote as follows:
"Hello Laurence:
While searching for a place
to read a copy of the book on Solomon Gee, I stumbled on your latest post at geneology.com. I attempted
to register so I could contact you, but am still waiting for my log in and
password to be emailed to me. I hope you don't mind that I emailed you
directly, and I hope you have some information that could help me confirm what
I've found about my link to Solomon.
I am the great-great granddaughter of Mary Gee, who
married William Aldrich in Drummondville, Quebec on Feb. 28, 1828.
Witnesses to their marriage were a Solomon and Mary Gee. The Aldrich
family left Canada to settle in Ripton, VT circa 1860.
Solomon Gee also settled in Ripton, VT, and the records indicate he was born 1786 in Marlow NH, which would make him the son of Lewman, b. 1759 in Lyme, CT, the son of Solomon II, b. 1736."
Solomon Gee also settled in Ripton, VT, and the records indicate he was born 1786 in Marlow NH, which would make him the son of Lewman, b. 1759 in Lyme, CT, the son of Solomon II, b. 1736."
I was strapped for time, but I do not like to let someone
wait for an answer so I responded with: "I will look into this and get back to
you this weekend."
It was over a week before I was
able to respond. Finally I had some time and did some massaging of my database
of descendants of Solomon Gee of Lyme Connecticut and sent her three
generations of descendants of Solomon Gee II plus some additional information
that I gathered from the Internet.
As I was rereading the information that I sent, I thought
that the history of Solomon Gee II that I had and the short information on his
wife Martha Bingham would be something that I could put into Family Tree
Stories. Some of the information is
from the book, but some is from information gathered from e-mail correspondents
over the past 9 years.
I copied the history and pasted into Stories in Family Tree.
This has made this information that I have available to all of Solomon’s
descendants, many of whom do not have access to the book or the resources that
I have. I will have to go through the
book and extract the histories, if they are appropriate and enter them into
Family Tree.
If you wish to see what I entered, Solomon Gee’s PIN is LZPP-GVP and Martha’s is LZD7-W9P
While I was at it, I found that I had placed a link to the
Grave Marker of Martha Bingham in the discussions. I deleted that and put the link in sources. I also noted that there was no link to the
grave marker of her husband Solomon Jr., so I added that as a source to his
record. I checked to see if there were
any duplicates for Solomon and the program listed two.
Both were named Greer born in Groton Massachusetts, so I marked them as not a
duplicate, so that someone else would not, in their zeal, merge them
inappropriately.
Thus we have another Adventure in Family Tree.

Looking at Duplicates and where it leads you
Yesterday I went to the
Family History Library to do some quick research. (It lasted longer than I
thought it was going to.) My first objective was to find the Logan Temple
record for baptisms for the dead on April 3, 1888. In Family Tree there are 3 possible duplicates for John Ulrich
Stucki. None of them are really John,
but they had no birth dates or places.
In looking at each record, there were baptism dates of April 3, 1888. I surmised that this was the work of John
Ulrich Stucki. Whoever extracted the
record did not include the date of birth or the place of birth. I though that perhaps I could find more
information if I personally looked at the record. That was my primary objective.
The next thing I was
looking for was a digital copy of the book “John Ulrich Stucki and his
Posterity”. I looked in the on-line
catalog and located the book and there was a digital copy, but it was not
available on line, only at the Family History Library. I thought that I might want to make that
book available to his posterity on a secure website. The reason that they do not make it available is that it contains
data on living people. It is there
policy not to publish that information unless they have the permission of all
the people involved.
Some years ago I took that
book and extracted all the information and put it into my PAF database. There are 1278 individuals and 370 marriages
and 1873 citations. The data is
outdated, because since the book was published in 1983 there have been many
more descendants and marriages.
I was able to download the
book and because they did optical character recognition it can be copied and
put into a word processing program.
Here is an example of cut and paste from the PDF of the book:
John
Ulrich Stucki was born 8 June, 1837, in Oberneunforn,
Thurgau,
Switzerland. The Canton of Thurgau borders the State of
Wuerttemberg
in Germany and Lake Constance on the north. To
the
southwest is the Canton of Zurich, in which Zurich, the largest
city
of Switzerland, is located. John U. Stucki's father, Johannes
was
born 15 July, 1806, his grandfather, Ulrich was born 14 September
1779,
all were born in Oberneunforn. His mother, Elizabeth Sauter,
was
born 22 August, 1804, a daughter of Felix Sauter and Elizabeth
Mueller,
of Hutweilen, also in the Canton of Thurgau, a short
distance
east of Oberneunforn. The Wyssmann and Mueller families
were
prominently mentioned in the early history of Thurgau in 1289
and
1300. The Sauter family is mentioned in the early history of
Thurgau
in 1651, and in the Canton of St. Gallen which is to the
immediate south of Thurgau as early as 1397.
This transferred over
quite nicely. Of course one could just make a direct Word document of the
document as well. You will notice that
the above extract is not formatted to fit the page.
My thought was to extract
only the history of John Ulrich and his three wives as they appear in the book
and put them into the stories in Family Tree, but I will have to get some input
from other members of the family to make that decision.
I was able to find the
microfilm of the baptismal record and now I need to do the real research. Here is one page of the document. The film # is 177,847.
And so now down to the
real research. If I find the
information that I was looking for there are ordinances to be performed.

Where do I store all this infromation?
I want to be able to link sources to the records in family tree. It is easy to add a story if it is in word processing format, such as Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, Word Pad, or an e-mail, but trying to attach a PDF file to stories, does not work. There is, however, a workaround that I found out about when I went to the Roots Tech conference. One can put in a URL to a website and then the individual who wants to look at the document can block, copy and paste the URL into the browser and be directed to a website with the PDF file. That necessitates having the PDF file on a website.
I have a website for the Lysander Gee family. I also have one for photos of the Salmon Gee descendants. In addition I have one for the ward family history class. I did not want to put information on the ancestors of my mother, Pearl Stucki, on the Gee website. This caused me to ponder and ask, where do I store all this information?
The answer was to create another website. So I did and here is the link: I got out of my comfort zone with this one, but it worked out reasonably well
I am in the process of adding files from my computer to the website as you can see. The problem that I encountered was that some URLs are so long that they do not work well in Stories in Family Tree. Also I found by experimentation that if the URL is entered in as a link that it comes up a a string of ****** and is of no use at all. If you leave of the HTTP// or WWW from the beginning of the URL and if it is short, then copy and paste into the browser works.
Here is an illustration. Click the Link. You will see how I added the entire 600+ page journal of my Great Grandfather John Ulrich Stucki as a link to his record in Stories. There may come a time when PDF files can be added directly to Family Tree, but this is the best way that I have come up to circumvent the problem.
The URL for his PDF journal was too long,so I had to just add the URL to the Stucki page, which was much shorter. I assume that people will be smart enough to go the the file if I direct them in an understandable manner.
So much for now.

More Sources for Family Tree Records
I have been working on the records of the descendants of
Lysander Gee. I have been trying to attach sources to those that I could find
information for so that I could add the sources to Family Tree.
For some reason I started with Robert Hale Gee. He had a son named after him, Robert Hale Gee. His son was Robert Claudeus Gee. He was also known as R. C. Gee. In my records he was married to Annabell Rosenbloom. In a search of the Ogden Standard Examiner I found a wedding announcement for R. C. Gee and Jeanne Paulis Schottenhammel[1], who I assume was his second wife. He was found in a census in Oregon with his first wife Anna Bell (Note the difference in spelling. This may be how the census taker spelled it.) and a daughter Sandra Claudette Gee.
The daughter was married to Kenneth J. Beggs in Clark County, Nevada at the age of 51 according to the Western States marriage index. It would be helpful to know if this was the same Sandra Claudette.
I found the following photos of grave markers on Find a Grave
Robert Hale Gee http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Gee&GSfn=Robert&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=47&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=30844167&df=all&

I was unable to easily find a newspaper obituary of either
one of the above.

Wedding announcement. Jeanne P Heaney and R. C. Gee
Married in the John Timothy Stone Chapel in Chicago
She was obviously was married to a Heaney prior to this
marriage.
The Gees are now on their honeymoon to Smoky Mountain
national Park Gallinberg, Tennessee and upon their return will reside in Ogden
where Mr. Gee is connected with the special service department of the Union
Pacific Railroad Company Mrs. Gee was a former stewardess for the company.
She is also listed as a grandmother of Vance Edward
Millard in his obituary 1 August 1966.
His father is listed and also grandfather and mother, but the mother is
not listed in the obituary.

She was probably born in Chicago since her parents were
from that city.

"Old Uncle", Salmon Gee Jr. (1830-1923)
Some time ago, I was teaching the family history class and a neighbor, Marilyn Thorne, said she had some information on a relative of mine. She got a photo copy of the information, a 5 page document with photos of someone that was referred to as "Old Uncle". This was Salmon Gee, Lysander Gee's youngest brother. Since the copy that I had was not readily readable, I transcribed it into Microsoft Word and posted it under Stories in Family Tree so that now everyone can read it that has the desire. The Link is HERE.
You might enjoy reading it. I will see if I can get the original photo, or at least a scanned gray scale copy. The photo that I placed in Family Tree is not the best, but it is what I have.
I have looked on Find A Grave for a photo of the grave marker, but it was not there.

Adding information in Sources
Today I added a brief history of Salmon Gee, Lysander’s
youngest brother to Stories in Family Tree. I also added a photo. I am working
on another history of Salmon Gee that I got from a neighbor. I hope to have that complete sometime this
week.
I also added a history of Erasmus Gee, Lysander’s oldest son
by Maryetta Rowe Gates Gee. He is the
one that is often combined and mistaken for Erastus Rowe. It includes letters from him to the judge while
he was in prison for polygamy. He seems
to disappear of the radar after his stint in prison. We will eventually find him, but it will take a lot of detective
work.
I have previously added a history of George Brown Bailey,
but had not linked him, and so this morning I linked him and found two photos
of him that someone had added to his record on Family Tree. I was pleased.
I also found Stephen Rowe Gee’s death certificate and put
that as a source in Family Tree.
Stephen was a younger brother of Erastus Rowe.
While I was at it, I found the death certificate of Louisa
Gee, Erastus’ half sister and added it to the sources.
I also found the death certificate of Mamie O’Brien Gee the
wife of Robert Hale Gee and the nephew of Erastus Rowe. I attached it as a
source in the record in Family Tree. I
also found a grave marker for Robert Claudius Gee, the son of Robert Hale Gee
and linked it as a source in Family Tree.
That is All for today.
